True Love Should Never Be Forgotten

Colossians 3:14

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

I can never forget my father's love for family and holidays. I honestly wonder what his childhood must have been like because his siblings are also big on family and holidays. I reflect on my childhood and the joy that we shared within our family nucleus. As a child, you just thought it was what every family experienced. It was not until I became older that I realized we had something special!

Today, I give thanks to God when I think of our home always filled with love, loud voices, loud music, laughter, family, friends, and food. I was speaking with my younger cousin today, and we talked about the incredible love we experienced as children. As a family, we all looked forward to gathering for our family affairs. Most importantly, my parent's wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve.

Visually, I can still see the crowd circling my parents as they took their final dance each year. Auld lang syne would be played as they would dance into the New Year. We would countdown, blow horns, throw streamers, confetti, pop balloons, the sound of champagne bottle tops popping, tears flowing, and shouts of Happy New Year’s. After which my father would make a toast. My siblings, cousins, and I would have the best time ever. We all gathered in one room filled with extreme love. The kind that still holds your heart today. Such joy!

I hear Auld lang syne lyrics playing softly in my ears

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For days of auld lang syne

For those years long past, I celebrate by never forgetting the love we shared. Father God, thank you for reflections of Auld lang syne.

Take time this Holiday Season to reflect the love you have shared with those you love most.

Remember:

  1. True Love should never be forgotten.

  2. Jesus love for all of us should never be forgotten nor taken for granted.

  3. Celebrate this season by giving God thanks, love more, cherish those precious moments with gratitude.
