Pursue, Overtake, and Recover All
1 Samuel 30:8 King James Version (KJV)
10 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
His Story
The journey of David from a shepherd boy to a king has always fascinated me. It was humble and lonely experiences of his youth that prepared him for leadership. As a shepherd boy, he conquered a lion, a bear, and a giant.
Proceeding David’s inquiry in 1 Samuel 30:8, he found himself devastated and discouraged. He and his army came back to their homes to find them ravished with their wives and children were taken. Overwhelmed with frustration, the men talked of stoning David. Thus, not only did David lose the people taken captive and the property that was burned to the ground, but he also lost the confidence of his men. Yet, it was this moment that King David encouraged himself and inquired of God for a plan; a practice David embraced since lowly times in the sheep field. God’s answer to David was Pursue, Overtake, and Recover all.
My Story
Relocating to Texas changed my life forever. My first year of living in Texas was filled with devastation and discouragement. The first five months were about grinding and finding a place to bloom. I found a job I enjoyed and enrolled in night classes at a community college. For me, it was blissful despite various challenges. After that, I had to face my own “animals” of adversity. My lion was losing my home in a fire five months after moving to Texas. My bear was having my new home burglarized two months later. My giant was losing my brother three months after the fire. As my life unraveled, I looked to GOD, my comforter and counselor.
God revealed himself to be faithful, and I knew that like David I needed to stay encouraged and inquire of GOD. I willingly embarked on a new journey, and He has continued to meet every perceived need on that path. This path I speak of relocated me to Texas, included some critical losses and presented some positive life-changing opportunities. To realize that I can depend on someone like that amazes me as a person who is used to “making things happen.” When I am in a space of dependence on Him, my best energy is not given to the fear of the unknown but destiny-shaping activities. Moving to Texas, going back to school, and resigning from my full-time job to pursue my engineering education were all steps I had to take without knowing the outcome. The only sure thing I had was God’s direction. I am graduating in May 2021, and there have been many crooked paths that He has made straight in terms of scholarships, coursework, and professional networks. I have also been blessed to land a dream job doing work that aligns with my gifts and personality. I did not match the ideal candidate profile. This same company denied me when I applied for a professional development academy. Despite the various challenges that have been on the path, God has been faithful.
While pursuing purpose, I am overtaking adversity, and I am recovering all the good things GOD has promised me. Moving to Texas was about turning a page in my life that propelled me further into purpose. Some harsh moments accompanied the journey, but I knew that I could not give up. I am learning that it is best to travel light and keep moving forward.
What is your story?
What are you pursuing?
Are you prepared to take over adversities in your life?
How can you recover all the good things God has promised you?
With love,
Evony
